Soo Locks at Sault Ste. Marie, MI provide access for 11,000 vesicles annually between Lake Superior and Lake Huron. The locks operate by allowing water from Lake Superior ( at the higher level ) to fill the lock and discharge into Lake Huron. Pumping systems are not needed for this operation, only the use of flow valves.
