RV CLUB MEETING -- JUNE 10, 2011 President King opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance at 10:00 am and introduced the guest speaker, Captain Gail Lazenby of The Villages Public Safety Department. Captain Lazenby provided an entertaining and informative presentation emphasizing safety and the proper use of CPR. A show of hands indicated that approximately 80 percent of those in attendance had had CPR training at one time or another. Lazenby pointed out that CPR guidelines were amended in 2005 to emphasize chest compression as the major component of CPR. He pointed out that for every minute that CPR is delayed there is a 10 percent reduction in the success rate. Chest compressions, two inches deep, should be delivered at the rate of 100 per minute -- 100 per minute equates to the beat of the song “Stayin’ Alive”. Lazenby said that even poor CPR technique was better than no CPR. He pointed out that 94 percent of cardiac arrest situations that occur out of a hospital environment result in death. CPR and the use of AED equipment can measurably improve that ratio. In response to a question, Lazenby said there was no liability for a person performing CPR and he was unaware of any successful legal action against a person performing emergency CPR. Irwin King read the minutes of the May meeting which had been prepared by Secretary Barb Hatch. The minutes were approved as read. Treasurer Carol McKechnie reported May expenses of $1,428.69 and income of $733.67 with an ending balance of $2,882.05. The financial report was accepted as read. The Sunshine Report was offered by Joyce Armstrong. Cards were sent to Nancy Martin, Jo Spinks, Fred Bryant, Bill Procop and Linda Sturgess. Rally Coordinator Dick Scheffler presented Wagon Master “danglers” to John and Fran Pope and Al and Eve Sandy in recognition of their participation as wagon masters for recent trips. He also announced that he would continue to pursue a rally in Fort Myers for a dinner theater. He asked if there was interest in a rally in Williston. By a show of hands there was little interest. Scheffler said he planned to visit a campground in Umatilla which had approached the RV Club as a potential site for a rally. The Rally Coordinator introduced Wagon Masters for upcoming events and reports were given by Len Holdsworth, Irwin King, Dick Steeves, Claudia Baesner and Pat Osborn. Five new couples were introduced and awarded club koozies. There were two thirty dollar fifty-fifty drawings. The meeting was concluded at 11:15am. Respectfully submitted by Irwin King, acting secretary.
